Genetic Testing

Mom sounds really good! Apparently the Taxal does not make her so sick. Today she had blood drawn so that it could be sent for genetic testing. IF insurance approves her for this then they'll send it on and see if this cancer is hereditary or not. IF insurance does not approve it...then we won't know (but her doctors said they would fight for the testing). It will probably be several weeks before we know any more on that though.

Mom is scheduled for Chemo on Friday (just the Taxal again). She was eating pizza tonight for dinner so I think she's doing well!

She's been out and about, visiting, and partying but she still is really only up for one outing per day. Nothing new to report otherwise. Happy Tuesday!

  1. Hi Barb,

Hope your doctors win on this one. Insurance companies don't really seem to get the importance of things like genitic testing. Glad to hear that this latest chemo has gone better than the last one. It was great to have you singing with us for Olga last week.

Thanks for keeping us all up to date.

    Much love,

  2. Hi Barb,

It is so good to see you out and about and feeling a bit better. Let's hope and pray that the insurance company will provide for the genetic testing. It would answer so many questions and be of help to the rest of the family as well.

Kara, this blog is such a blessing! Thank you!

    With love,

  3. Hi Barb

I believe that we have the same Blue Cross insurance through the Feds. When I had genetic testing - they paid the bill in full. No problem at all, not even a copay. Hope this puts your mind at ease and it is the same today as it was two years ago. The positive testing for both the BRCA 1 & 2 gene mutation made my decision to have the ovaries removed and finally the bilaterial mastectomy. It really made a difference in my life. Glad to hear that you are doing better.

    Thanks Kara for this blog.

    Love Angela
